Music Home Page | Calendar of EventsCourse DescriptionBeginning Band 6 & 7 In this course attention is focused on introductory music fundamentals, technical achievement, and acquisition of rehearsal and performance skills through exposure to a variety of literature. Membership is open to any and all students who wish to extend their knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of music by learning to play a wind, or percussion instrument. No previous experience is required. Students enrolled should be capable of completing the requirement for Proficiency Level I. The beginning student is usually expected to furnish his or her own instrument. Sixth and seventh graders may take band for a semester or a year. Band 7 This course is a continuation of the technical training started in the beginning band class. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of skills necessary to met high standards of music performance. The student is exposed to a wide variety of band and orchestral literature. Membership is open to all students who successfully complete Band 6 or with the director’s approval. Seventh grade students may take band for a semester or a year. Band 8 In this year-long course students are acquainted with the great heritage of symphonic literature and are given the opportunity to develop high standards of general musicianship. Emphasis is placed on artistic performance commensurate with the maturation level and experience of the group. Performances are an important part of the group activities. After-school rehearsals and performances may be required of students. Membership is open to all students who have completed band 7 or with the director’s approval. |
