Goal: The goal
of our internet Safety Plan is to integrate internet safety into
our instructional programs on a continuing basis. This will assist
in protecting our students from online dangers both in and out
of school.
Background: In 2006, the Commonwealth of Virginia
enacted HR58 concerning Internet safety in public schools. In October
of 2006 the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) developed a
guidance document to assist school divisions in addressing Internet
safety issues. In June of 2007 Virginia Beach City Public Schools
Internet Safety Plan was implemented.
Main Focus: To instill in students the safe use
of the internet and the practice of contacting a trusted adult
if at any time they feel uncomfortable using the internet.
Internet Rules:
Never share passwords or personal information.
Do not use rude or
inappropriate language online.
Tell a trusted adult when you feel
threatened or uncomfortable online.
Tell a trusted adult if you are receiving or suspecting online
bullying.
What can you do at home? Here is an online resource
to assist you, but like so many other things that deal with our
children, the first and most important step is to talk to them
about internet safety. http://www.familyguidebook.com/ |
